OLD FRIENDS COMING by Katherine Carey-Place 1878-1934

There’s a heap of real gladness,
When you meet old friends once more,
And a little bit of sadness,
As you talk the old times o’er.
Oh, it’s nice to feel the thrill of peace,
And know their fond and true,
It’s nice to feel they traveled far,
To show their love for you.

It’s nice to know they care for you,
As you clap their hands so tight,
And draw them in beside the fire,
A glowing warm and bright,
There may be many blessings,
And joys touch the heart,
There may be found reunions,
In your life – a thing apart.

But the thrill of joy that’s ours today,
And makes me feel so glad,
Is to meet these friends we learned to love,
The best we ever had.
So we’re going to make them welcome,
And just fill our home with cheer,
To show them we appreciate,
Their visit while they’re here.
