Election time is almost here –
I wonder as the day draws near –
Will Nixon win as I would like –
And carry on as has “our Ike?”
Or will it go the other way –
With Kennedy winner of the day?
And should Jack the winner be –
Will he do what’s best for you and me?
Or will he find us unimportant –
And let our states go color-sorted –
Will he let us down for someone smoother --
That friend of his – a guy named Reuther?
When at Day’s end, my prayers I say –
I thank God for a lovely day –
I do not ask that my choice win –
But God grant the right one in.
After thinking deeply – Mr. Nixon gets my vote –
But whoe’er wins – if he’s on God’s side – I’ll climb aboard his boat.
