There’s quite a lot to your choice of profession –
It involves skill, knowledge and much compassion.
For the ones who wear the cap and pin –
Are entrusted with the wellbeing of their fellowmen.
Those you nurse will look to you –
For the very best you can possibly do.
Their lives are placed into your hands –
And they hope you will understand –
Patients vary in many ways –
Some are fearful, others brave.
Some feel more pain than others do –
Some will make more demands on you.
Whatever the reason behind those actions –
Keep in mind there are many fractions –
That have made the person you’re attending –
And upon God and you their lives are depending.
And now your goal comes within reaching –
You think of the lectures that were more like preaching –
And of the days you would rather have taken a nap –
Than to cram and study to earn your cap.
You can look back with a smile, now that’s done –
It wasn’t all rough, there was some fun.
It was a challenge that took lots of “grit” –
But look what you have to show for it.
