Jesus said:
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
If there is a perfect example of what Christianity should be, it is found in these verses. Christ’s teachings were about love and forgiveness and He stressed that those should shine forth from your life fully and strongly. Notice that He mentions your good deeds, not your judgements and hatreds.
The Christian Nationalism we are seeing today let's their light shine as an evil light that betrays the love Jesus taught. There is no compassion or understanding, only the serving of condemnation and damnation.
Even if you do not practice the teachings of Jesus, we all could benefit if we were a light that highlighted good deeds and love toward our fellow humans.
The apostle Paul wrote in I Corinthians 13: 1-8 (NIV)
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
LOVE!
