I live in a constant state of frustration over my health. Being a male, I have the yearly PSA check that monitors me for prostate cancer. The magic number is four. Four what I am not sure but a rating of four OR less is ideal.
A few years ago, my numbers began to increase. So, because of this my Urologist suggested additional tests.
I should note my father had prostate cancer in the 1960s and the surgery to remove it ruined his life.
To date I have had multiple PSA tests, the finger up the bum, Biopsies of the gland, a CT scan of the gland, an MRI of the gland and finally a DNA test to see how likely I am to have prostrate cancer.
Finger test? Slightly enlarged. Biopsies? Negative. CT scan? Negative. MRI? Negative. DNA test? Slightly higher risk.
My Urologist wants to do more biopsies at this point. The biopsy was the worst, most painful thing I have ever done in my life. I peed blood for weeks, my ejaculate was full of blood for weeks. And honestly the pain from having it done sucked!
I asked my family Doctor’s opinion and maybe the chances of getting a second opinion. His reply was “If you don’t want another biopsy then don’t get one.” Is this smart?
ARGGGGGGG!
