The Chadwells
My grandmother Richard, after being widowed for the second time after my grandfather died in 1915, remarried to Edward Chadwell in 1920. This was the step-father that hated my dad and sent him packing when he was 13.
They had two daughters Edna (1921-1981) and Cynthia Ann or Annie (1923-1992). My dad stayed close to them and we always visited them when traveling to Missouri.
We often stayed with Aunt Edna, which was always an adventure. She had nine children and they were always into something. Her husband Charles was a sharecropper and they lived most often in small houses with minimal bedrooms or even shacks with dirt floors. They were clean, the food was good, and love could be felt. Let the good times roll seemed to be their motto.
Aunt Annie was the exact opposite of her sister. She lived in a proper little house in town, had two children and her husband Lester always wore slacks and a pressed shirt. We never stayed overnight with them.
