Greetings to my author/literary friends and anyone who just loves words.

In the past few months, I have joined the Board of Directors at Buckham Fine Arts Project in Flint Michigan. Recently the board of directors voted to make some exciting changes that I would like to share with you.

Buckham’s mission statement reads, “It is the mission of Buckham Gallery to enrich the cultural life of its surrounding communities by presenting a broad range of innovative contemporary art, both visual and performance, of the highest quality and standard.”

Buckham is beginning it’s 40th year of programming. In the beginning many aspects of art were represented but overtime the visual arts have taken on the main focus. Recently the board voted to include Literary Artists as potential Artist Collaborators. This adds the Literary world into the Artist Collaborators group. 
“Buckham Arts Collective is a group of practicing artists and advocates who lead and sustain the organization to further the goals of Buckham Fine Arts Project…” 
This new membership is “Open to ‘Artists of the Word’ who are active in pursuing the craft of expressing themselves with the written word.” 

MY hopes for this group are that it will have an impact in the following ways:
First, it will help Buckham to further fulfill its mission statement and to continue its growth. 40 years have brought Buckham to an exciting and unbelievable level and this will take it to another level.

Second, by bringing together a group with these talents it will aid in taking literature into the Community.

Lastly, there is a need for a support system for local Literacy Artists. Working within this Collaboration would provide networking, public exposure, and promotional resources. A long-term goal would also be to seek out and provide opportunities to grow in the craft.
