Our First Canine Baby
During our married life we have had the privilege to have six fur babies of the canine persuasion. We both had dogs as children and it was only natural to adopt them into our lives as adults.
The first was Brandy, a golden colored shepard mix.
I picked up this little bundle one morning and spent the day with her. Maggie was the name I Christened her with. Working different shifts than my wife, I dropped the new baby off at my Mothers for her to watch until the wife got out of work. Eight hours later I rushed home only to find she was now Brandy and had been brainwashed into believing that was her name.
A great companion and fantastic frisbee player, she would bound across the yard catching the flying disc, rarely missing. Our friend Lionlel had a habit of tossing beer bottle caps into the yard, she found and retrieved them back.
Not thinking about the “Birds and the Bees’, we were remiss in having her fixed. A stealthy lab from the neighborhood accomplished breeding her despite my pregnant wife’s attempts to stop the act. Around sixty days later, eight puppies arrived days before our second daughter. Delivered by my wife and mother, my supervisor did not feel puppies being born was cause to release me early from work.
Our oldest daughter named each one. We kept the runt, Sammy.
Brandy was there for the birth of each of our daughters and loved each of them.
She lived ten good years and finally tumors (Cancer?) filled her body and we had to let her go.
