Your Daughter by Gaylia Kenslow – Stogsdill

What a precious little bindle has come to live with you –
A work of art, a miracle, a girl with eyes of blue.
She has dainty, tapered fingers and the cutest button nose –
You can dress her up so pretty in those fancy baby clothes.
That tiny bit of hair you see atop her little head –
Will be her crowning glory in the years that lie ahead.
Those feet that are so tiny – a shoe won’t fit as yet –
Will grow much faster than you think – soon 6B will fit.
The years stretch out before you – it seems like a long while –
But before lone they’re behind you and you’ve traveled many miles.
So look upon this wee one that God has sent to you –
Enjoy her every minute – even though there’s work to do.
For our lives are all divided into eras of their own –
First we’re children, then we’re parents, then our children make their home.
And we find ourselves quite lonely for the day that used to be –
And we find there’ consolation hidden in our memories.
If we’ve cherished every moment, laughed and spanked and loved and cried –
We’ll be happier in those golden years when the apron strings untie.
