Nan’s Truck
Nans Truck
I have always thought it a little strange that the only toy my mother left for me from her childhood was a truck. I mean it’s cool for me being a guy, I can use a truck! Not a doll or dishes! The Edmonds were a kind of strange family, so maybe a truck was a normal gift for a girl?
Mom’s truck as near as I can tell is a Buddy L. Buddy L toys were made by Moline Pressed Steel Company. Opening in 1910, the company made pressed metal parts for International Harvester. In 1921 they also began to manufacture toy trucks. The owner at the time wanted to make something cool and durable for his son.
Mom’s flatbed truck that is reminiscent of the Beverly Hillbillies truck was probably made in the early 1930’s. Mom was born in 1933. It’s missing its rear fenders, but the steering works perfectly and it is cool.
