Vera Carleen Richard-Davis

My Dad was married three times and had five children. His first marriage to Iona Pearl Sanders (Daughter of Frank and Sarah) ended in divorce and to them my sister Vera was born.

They were married in May of 1930 and divorced in April of 1934. Vera was born on September 21, 1930 in Parma, Missouri.

Vera and her mother moved to Highland Park, Michigan in 1942 and four years later she married the love of her life
Frank Davis in Toledo, Ohio (July 17, 1946).

They built a home in Royal Oak, Michigan and raised four children.

Vera passed away on August 11, 2018 in Royal Oak, Michigan.

For whatever reason I wasn’t told about having this sister will I was older, maybe I was 8, 9 or 10 years old? Each year we would travel to the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak and Dad would drop us off for the day and later I learned that he would go an visit with Vera..

At some point my Mother pressured him into telling me about her and I can still remember a bright spring day where she and Frank came to visit.

From all the stories I heard, Vera’s mother and my Dad’s second wife were close friends. The Sanders lived across a field from the Hatchells. Dorothy (Dad’s second wife) and her would visit back and forth with each other.
After they were all in Michigan Iona would bring Vera to Flint to spend a weekend with my Dad and then she and Dorothy would visit.
